I loved everything about the hotel from the moment I got there and the only regret I have is not being able to spend more time enjoying what the hotel had to offer and it would have been nice to visit during the summer as well.
I didn’t let these little inconveniences hold me back and if you’ve happened to read my blog before you know I’m always looking for the best places to stay wherever it is I’m visiting.
In this case I was very lucky to be able to spend the night at the Auberge du Lac Saint-Pierre and use it as a base to explore the nearby areas.
I also chose this hotel because it was about an hour away from Quebec City and this made the long drive back to Toronto a little bit shorter than it would have been.
Like I already mentioned, the hotel is located about 15 minutes away from the nearby city of Trois Rivieres and from the hotel it’s possible to easily reach anywhere else in the surrounding area that you would want to check out.
Not only was the location amazing but I had an incredible view of the St. Lawrence River right out the window and it was awesome being able to watch people snow surfing along the frozen river as well as the huge ships cruising by to the nearby ports.
There are actually quite a few different hotels to choose from in the area and it can be hard to find one that’s well-reviewed, has fast Wi-Fi, is in a great location, and comes with free on-site parking.
People, myself included, are quite picky these days and apart from the features that I just listed the hotel also offers such amenities as an on-site restaurant, spacious rooms, and a secluded location that’s ideal for a city break or short-term vacation.
If these are the things that you’re interested in when it comes to accommodation while you’re traveling then you don’t have to look any further than the Auberge du Lac Saint-Pierre Hotel and in this post I want to go over a few of the details of the hotel as well as provide you guys with a review of the experience that I had while staying there.
As soon as I pulled up to the hotel and drove onto the property I was amazed by the size of the grounds as well as how secluded it seemed despite being so close to the city and nearby properties.
After walking through the doors and to the hotel lobby I was immediately greeted by a positive and happy receptionist and throughout my entire stay I was treated very well.
I have stayed at quite a few highly rated hotels in the past and while the Auberge du Lac Saint-Pierre isn’t a 5 star it might as well be judging from the quality of service I received as well as the amenities and overall comfort of the hotel itself.
The hotel doesn’t look like your standard hotel and it’s actually located inside what appears to be a large home so you get a much more welcoming and homey-feeling when you arrive and spend a night or more.
The history of the hotel doesn’t date back very far and it was only in 1986 when the father of the current owner purchased the property as well as the rundown buildings that were still standing.
The land was cleared and the old run-down buildings were removed to make way for the current building which houses all the rooms as well as the restaurant.
Not that long ago the area wasn’t a popular tourist destination but these days tourists from all around Eastern and central Canada are visiting the region to spend time experiencing some of the best that Quebec has to offer.
For more than 28 years the hotel has been in operation and it’s quickly approaching its 30-year anniversary of excellence and wonderful service for anyone that’s lucky enough to visit.
These days there are 30 rooms to choose from, each of them with its own unique personality with some of the rooms offering an incredible view of the St. Lawrence river that runs right behind the property.
There’s also a pool and hot tub on-site along with plenty of outdoor seating if you’re fortunate enough to be visiting during the warmer months what are you can relax outside and just enjoy the view.
Now that I’ve gone over some of the details as well as a little bit of the history of the hotel into my Auberge du Lac Saint-Pierre review.
The Auberge du Lac Saint-Pierre in Trois Rivieres: An In-Depth Review
Check-In and Interior
Before arriving at the hotel I was in Quebec City so it was only a short hour or so long drive along the beautiful St. Lawrence River to reach the hotel.
It was getting pretty late and the sun was nearly set by the time I arrived so I rushed inside so I could get some photos during the daylight before it ran out.
Right away, after parking and getting out of the car, I was struck by how quiet and peaceful it seemed despite being so close to a main road and a highway.
The property was quite big and I could see it sprawling out on both sides of the main hotel building.
As I walked into the lobby I was immediately greeted by the receptionist who surprisingly seemed to know who I was and quickly began going through the check-in process.
After finishing up with the check-in process I explored the main level of the hotel a bit.
Since it was the holidays the entire ground level was decorated with a lot of Christmas decorations and I couldn’t help but admire the seating area right beside the receptionist desk with the large window that opened out onto the grounds behind the hotel and the St. Lawrence River.
There was quite a bit of seating available and there was even a fake fireplace burning that just added to the overall comfortable ambience of the hotel interior.
Just off the main reception area was another large room with a bar and a few more seats.
In this room I also noticed a large real wood burning fireplace and after asking the receptionist how often it was used she replied that it could be turned on at my request, which I thought was pretty cool being able to take advantage of enjoying a wood burning fireplace after a long winter day.
I finally made my way up to the room via a curving staircase that ran through the center of the main building and walking down the hallway I was impressed by the dark red carpet as well as the interesting design work on the lower level of the hallway wall.
As soon as I opened the door to my room I was surprised by how big it was and immediately ran over to the window to check out the view.
My first impression was that it was quite modern, despite an old air conditioning unit and a VCR, and I found the incredible view of the rear grounds of the hotel and the St. Lawrence River to be breathtaking and one of the best aspects of the room.
After admiring the view for a short while I turned around and took a look at what the rest of the room had to offer.
The room had quite an interesting shape and it wasn’t like your typical square hotel room that you get if you’re staying at a hotel chain so I really liked the positioning of the different pieces of furniture such as the bed and the seating area.
In one part of the room there were two large beds and this meant that my girlfriend and I got to sleep in our own beds rather than having to share.
The beds were very comfortable and even while I was laying down I could still enjoy the view out the window.
Right beside the bed was one of the desks with a mirror on the wall and this was a great place for my girlfriend to get her makeup done in the morning and along with the side dressers it made it possible to store our luggage without anything getting in the way on the floor.
In the center of the room was a large open space that made it seem incredibly spacious and airy and at the other end of the room was a sitting area with a couch, small chair, and a desk that also offered a nice view through the windows.
Thanks to the three different windows it was possible to keep the blinds open and let in plenty of natural light though there was also curtains that could turn the room very dark so that the light wouldn’t wake you up in the morning.
Overall, I found the room to be quite spacious, very well-equipped, plenty of room for storage and activities, and well suited for two people to enjoy a short-term stay.
I’ll be completely honest – I was definitely taken aback by how modern and well-equipped the bathroom was at the Auberge du Lac Saint-Pierre Hotel.
Right away I noticed the large shower that came equipped with an overhead rainfall shower (something I love) and inside the shower itself was a large flat surface that left plenty of room to keep toiletries in an easy to access spot.
The layout of the sink area was quite nice, updated and quality with a good overall positioning, without being cluttered or aged.
Right when I walked in I noticed a small little basket full of all the body and face towels and this was nice since everything was kept in one place and I didn’t have to go searching through the bathroom to find a towel that I needed.
They were also quite a few different amenities available such as shampoo, shower gel, conditioner, soap, and even a nifty little shoe cloth.
Above the doorway I noticed that there was small personal heater and this was a nice touch especially as it was quite cold outside and it’s never nice coming out of the shower only to start shivering.
Depending on the type of room that you choose you can find rates for the Auberge du Lac Saint-Pierre Hotel starting at around $138 CAD per night.
To be honest I’m not quite sure if breakfast is included and since it’s likely you’ll be arriving to the hotel by car there’s plenty of free parking located right out front.
As always, I recommend booking your room as soon as you have confirmed your travel dates so that you can secure the best possible rate and avoid any potential issues with availability.
Depending on why you’re visiting the region hotel is located in quite a good location for exploring around the countryside as well as checking out the nearby city of Trois Rivieres.
There is a popular local highway that runs right out front of the hotel so there’s no problem when it comes to easy access by car and a larger provincial highway is a short drive away that will bring you towards Toronto or to Quebec City.
Nearby are also a few restaurants, beaches, public parks, and even some wineries that are definitely worth checking out during the warmer summer months.
The city of Trois Rivieres is just 15 minutes away by car and this really opens up your options when it comes to restaurants and other things to do in the area.
It’s not just the interior of the hotel that’s spectacular – the exterior of it is quite impressive as well.
Behind the main building is where you’ll find a large pool, hot tub, a gazebo, plenty of outdoor seating, and when there isn’t any snow it’s possible to walk down to the banks of the St. Lawrence River and enjoy the view.
Anyone traveling with kids is going to want to consider staying here as the grounds scroll out a decent amount and there’s plenty of room for children to play and run around.
Even though the hotel is located so close to Trois Rivieres it feels like it’s in a much more secluded area and I really got a relaxed vibe when I was staying here.
I’m not sure if it’s because the hotel wasn’t that busy during my stay but I found that the wireless internet available at the Auberge du Lac Saint-Pierre was amazing.
It was really easy to connect, I never experienced any problems with connectivity or signal strength, and throughout the day and into the night the internet speed was very quick.
I was easily able to upload photos and even upload a video to YouTube so if fast internet is something you want when you’re staying at a hotel then you’re going to love the wi-fi here.
Parking and Accessibility
I arrived at the hotel by car and using a GPS I had no problem navigating from the highway through the local streets and reaching the hotel.
Getting to Trois Rivieres is also very straightforward and it’s basically a straight shot down the highway towards the city centre where you can find plenty of parking.
Free parking is available right out front of the hotel and there are quite a few different spots to choose from and if you’ve packed quite a bit you can pull right up to the front door, unpack, and then park the car just a few meters away.
This hotel is definitely not accessible from the train or bus station and you’re really only able to access it if you are arriving by car.
Despite there being a few different hotels in Trois Rivieres to choose from I would definitely recommend the Auberge du Lac Saint-Pierre if you’re looking for a more personal, comfortable, and memorable experience.
The rooms are spacious, well equipped, and many of them offer a great view of the St. Lawrence River.
The grounds are quite big and there is plenty of room to relax, have fun, or just spend some time exploring with your kids.
Free on-site parking along with easy access to nearby highways and other points of interest are the icing on the cake and when it comes to the best place to stay in Trois Rivieres then I would definitely recommend checking out the Auberge du Lac Saint-Pierre Hotel.
Overall, I don’t have anything to complain about when it comes to what I experienced during my stay and I only wish that I was able to visit during the summer and spend more than just a single night at the hotel.
