There is only one set of packing cubes I recommend – the eBags Packing Cube Set. Check them out!
In this post I want to hope you find the best packing cubes for traveling with.
For so long I avoided using packing cubes. Instead, everything would be a mess all over the hotel room or AirBnb.
When it came time to pack everything would get jammed into my suitcase or backpack. it would be impossible to find anything specific inside.
I wasn’t even keeping my dirty laundry separated from everything else. How gross is that?
That was until I started wondering how to keep everything organized in my suitcase. Naturally I was led to packing cubes and since then I’ve used them for all of my trips.
Personally, I prefer using the eBags packing cubes and it’s only the eBags Packing Cube Set that I would recommend.
Having the sets provides better options for organization.
The smaller cube is great for socks and underwear. The medium cube is great for t-shirts and smaller clothing items. The large cube is perfect for jeans, sweaters, and bulky items.
I’m going to start by going over a quick review of the eBags Packing Cubes. Hopefully I’ll be able to show you why these are the best ones to bring with you on your next trip.
I hate when other blogs make like 8 different recommendations when you’re looking for a specific product. So rather than have you guess about the best option I’m providing you with what I believe to be the best packing cube set!
Let’s jump into the review. Keep scrolling for an FAQ and some tips on using packing cubes.
Are Packing Cubes Worth It?
For me, packing cubes are definitely worth it but it’s really up to your travel styles and preferences that determines whether or not they’ll be worth it for you to use.
If you’re normally an organized person and you have no problems packing everything efficiently and being able to quickly access your stuff whenever you need it then they might not be a good idea for you.
However, if you’re like me and when it comes time to pack for your trip you end up just jumbling everything together in a pile and hoping for the best then yes, you’ll want to consider using packing cubes.
You could use Ziploc bags if you don’t feel like shelling out for the cubes but Ziploc bags can be quite flimsy, easy to rip and although you can see everything that’s inside of them they’re still not that easy to keep organized because of their shape and design.
The Benefits of Traveling with Packing Cubes
Sturdy and Durable
Unlike plastic bags, packing cubes are typically made from a sturdy and durable fabric material that keeps its shape when packed away in your luggage.
The material also helps to prevent sharp objects from ripping or making holes in your clothes when everything is jammed inside during transit.
You Can Compress Your Clothes
When you’re just folding or rolling your clothes and packing them away there is a lot of extra space that’s being wasted.
When you’re using a packing cube you can more efficiently pack everything into a smaller space and less space is wasted.
Easy to Stay Organized
The biggest benefit to me of using the cubes is that they allow me to stay a lot more organized.
Everything I bring can be packed in a specific cube and I don’t have to rifle through my entire bag just to find one little thing.
I keep my sweaters and jeans in one, t-shirts in another, socks and underwear in a different cube and my small electronics and other accessories go into one as well.
Some of the options even come color coded and that makes it even easier to further organize everything.
Suitable for Traveling With
Not only do the cubes fit well into backpacks or suitcases but they can also be used to keep things organized and properly stored away even when you’re visiting a hotel or hostel.
Instead of having to leave everything out and exposed on a shelf or in a locker you can continue to leave your things in the packing cubes and just access them when you need something.
They can also be locked which gives you a little bit more security and makes it just a tiny bit harder for someone to take your favorite sweater or last pair of clean socks.
Can Be Easily Washed
If you’re using the cubes to store your dirty laundry you don’t have to worry about them getting too stinky even after a long trip.
They’re very durable so you can either spot wash them or toss them into the washing machine to so that they’re smelling fresh and ready to use again.
Try to avoid using the dryer because the high heat could damage the fabric so just hang them to dry when they’re finished washing.
Plenty of Ways to Use
You don’t only have to use them for your clothes.
Packing cubes can be used for your electronics, camera gear, travel accessories and even as a pillow if you really wanted to.
They’re very versatile and offer a wide range of different uses depending on what you need them for.
How to Use Packing Cubes Properly
It might seem straightforward but when I first started using packing cubes I would still haphazardly toss everything in without too much consideration on how to properly pack.
Eventually I learned a few different techniques that made it easier and actually allowed me to pack more things into the same small space.
Here are some steps on how you can make the most of your luggage or backpack space by using packing cubes:
- Layout all of the clothing or anything else you’re packing into the cubes on the bed or floor
- Roll (not fold) everything up and place inside the cube
- Close the zipper and make sure everything is squeezed inside
- If everything fits so far then you’re ready to go! If not, keep reading
- Search for any extra pockets of space inside the cubes
- Open the zipper a small amount and try to fit any additional items inside
- Once everything is packed away and your cubes are completely full you’re ready to go
- If you want, you can even write a quick guide on where everything is in each cube
- Now that we’ve got the basics out of the way let’s take a look at my recommendations.
The Best Packing Cubes for Travel
Here are my recommendations for the best travel packing cubes that can be used whether you’re using a suitcase or you’re going backpacking.
There are quite a few different options available and each has their own benefits and drawbacks when it comes to traveling with.
After I go through my recommendations I’ll also go over a few alternatives for you to consider as well.
eBags Packing Cubes
If you’ve ever looked up packing cubes then you’ve probably come across the ones by eBags.
The eBags Packing Cubes are some of the most popular online and they’re actually my favorite ones to use when I’m traveling. These are the first option but I would recommend considering if you’re looking for cubes to keep all of your clothing and other travel items organized.
The eBags come in the three different sizes – small, medium, large – and it’s up to you to decide which size is the most practical for your traveling style and itinerary.
If you’re traveling light or you don’t have too much gear then you could go with the small size but if you’re bringing a lot of stuff with you you’ll probably want to go with the large size.
I use a combination of the medium and large ones and I actually find that the small size is too small for my needs.
The cubes themselves have a streamlined profile and are made of nylon which makes them lightweight and easy to travel with. Part of the top of the cube is mesh so you can quickly check to see what’s inside without having to open each one and search through it.
There is even a little handle that you can use to carry the cube and it makes it easier to pull out of your luggage or from a storage space. I don’t really use the handle too often, I just grab the entire thing, but it sometimes comes in handy especially when the cube is jammed into the bottom of my bag.
Finally, they’re machine washable which is a plus for me, especially when i’m travelling in warmer climates and want to wash everything more regularly and there is even a lifetime warranty so if you ever have any problems with them eBags will work with you to correct any issues.
Overall, I recommend checking out the eBags Packing Cubes if you’re looking for a no-frills, basic but still durable and practical to travel with packing cube.
Different sizes and different colors available mean you can choose the set that’s most practical for your traveling needs and they’re what I found to be the best packing cube for travel.
