Underwear is one of the most important traveling essentials and it’s a good idea to bring with you high-quality, comfortable, breathable and packable undies with you when you travel.
I recently wrote a post about the best underwear for traveling with and one of my recommended options was the ExOfficio Give-N-Go Boxer Briefs.
Today, I want to go over my review of the ExOfficio Give-N-Go Boxer Briefs and elaborate why I think they’re such a popular pair of underwear for traveling with.
Whether you’re a backpacker, luxury traveler or you’re just spending a week or more abroad these underwear are great choice and I definitely recommend bringing a pair along with you.
My ExOfficio Give-N-Go Boxer Briefs Review
One of the most important things when it comes to travel clothing is how comfortable it is.
I found the ExOfficio Give-N-Go Boxer Briefs to be quite comfortable to wear for 12 to 16 hours at a time during both the summer and winter seasons of travel.
During the summer they’re especially comfortable because they help to wick away moisture and this helps keep you dry on those hot, humid and sweaty days.
In the winter they do the same thing so that you don’t get any cold chills because of built-up moisture down there.
These boxer briefs are made from a combination of 94% nylon and 6% lycra.
This makes them quite stretchy but also gives them a nice tightness in the places you need it. They hold everything in place and, for the most part, don’t ride up when you’re just walking around exploring a new city.
The material they are designed from also makes them very breathable and lightweight so they’re easy to pack, wash and wear for extended periods of time.
Since these boxer briefs are very lightweight they’re easy to pack and they make a suitable choice for traveling with.
Cotton underwear and regular sized boxers can be quite bulky and typically take up a significant amount of space in your luggage depending on how many pairs you’re bringing so they’re not really something you want to pack a lot of.
I found that the boxer briefs pack down very small and hardly take up any space in my bag. I actually lay mine out flat when I pack them away but if you roll them up they’ll be able to fit in a space about the size of your fist, or smaller.
Since they are so easy to pack you can bring more than a few pairs without sacrificing that much space and still have room left over for your travel socks and other items of clothing.
Easy to Wash
One of my favorite features about these boxer briefs is how easy they are to wash and how quickly they dry when wet.
The material they’re made of is very quick drying and it also doesn’t retain much soap or water when you’re washing them.
Once I rinse them with some soap I’m able to quickly wash all the soap out and then wring them by hand before putting them up to dry.
Just from a manual wringing they’re almost dry enough to wear and they’ll definitely be dry if you hang them up overnight.
If you’re in a hurry you can always leave them out in the sun or hang them over a radiator/fan and they’ll be dry in less than 60 minutes.
If you are hanging them on radiator make sure it’s not too hot and don’t leave them on for too long or you could damage the materials/fabric.
Another thing that makes them so easy to wash and keep clean is the Aegis Microbe Shield that ExOfficio uses to treat their underwear fabric.
I can’t really elaborate on the science or technicalities behind this feature but it definitely helps to prevent these boxer briefs from getting too smelly if you wear them for an extended period of time.
Once, when I wasn’t able to do any laundry, I wore them for two days straight and even though it was the peak of the summer and I was sweating throughout both days they didn’t smell that bad when I took them off.
Cotton, on the other hand, gets really wet and stinky after you wear a pair of cotton underwear for just a day so I was thankful for the ExOfficio boxer briefs for keeping me fresh enough.
Washing is simple, simply use some travel laundry soap and add warm water to the sink.
Scrub them with your hands, rinse them out and then wring out the underwear to the best of your ability using your travel towel so that you can remove all of the excess moisture.
When you’re done, hang them to dry and they’ll be clean, smelling fresh and ready for you to wear the next morning.
The only problem I have with these boxer briefs is that they aren’t as tight on the thighs as they could be.
I don’t remember if they were better when they are brand-new but after having worn them for a few months they’re quite loose near the bottom of the thigh piece.
Everything else is kept in place and I still find them very comfortable to wear on a regular basis but I just want to mention this one thing in my review to give you the most honest opinion that I could.
Recently, I was informed that ExOfficio is coming out with a new pair of boxer briefs that are more designed for sport use and these should be a better suited option for people like me that are traveling and spending a lot of time moving around throughout the day.
I’ll definitely be reviewing the newer pair as soon as I get my hands on them so you definitely want to check back for an update.
Overall, I definitely recommend the ExOfficio Give-N-Go boxer briefs if you’re looking for a pair of underwear that’s ideally suited for traveling with.
They’re comfortable, easy to wash, lightweight and durable enough for regular, daily use.
If you’re traveling for an extended period of time or you’re heading somewhere that’s going to be very warm and humid you’ll definitely want to consider bringing these boxer briefs so that you can stay comfortable and dry when you’re walking around.
