When travelling abroad it’s important to be able to plug in and charge all of your devices on a regular basis.
You’re going to want to make sure you have the best travel adapter for your style of travel to make sure everything you’re bringing with you will work the way it’s supposed to.
Whether you work online and need your laptop or your iPhone died and you want to take more pictures there’s nothing worse than plugging something in and seeing sparks fly out of the wall.
Almost everything you bring from home will need a travel adapter if you want it to work.
Everything from hair dryers and straighteners to electric toothbrushes and razors need to be safely charged.
Buying more than one adapter is a great idea since you’re probably going to be moving around a lot and constantly plugging and unplugging things. Having the adapter break on you halfway through your trip can add some unwanted stress and it’s best to bring a backup or two to avoid any problems.
It’s also possible to buy one once you reach your destination but to be safe I recommend buying them at home or ordering a few online before you leave on your trip.
You might be worried about the voltage of the country you’re visiting and whether or not you’ll need a voltage converter so you should keep in mind that many modern electronics come with voltage converter built-in.
If you’re travelling with a hair-straightener, hair blower, or any other small appliance that isn’t a common tech device it’s likely you will need to buy a converter. Some laptop, phones, tablets, mp3 players and cameras do not require a converter and will work just fine with a travel adapter.
The Best Travel Adapters
As always, all opinions are my own!
Targus World Power Travel Adapters
The Targus World Travel Adapter is the cream of the crop when it comes to adapters.
It takes advantage of a 3-part design and I found that it offers the best value, and quality, especially compared to the alternatives. You can use this device in almost every continent in the world including South America, Europe, Asia, and Australia.
With the three interchangeable adapters it comes with it’s very easy to charge your devices all over the world. Since it can be broken down into three different pieces it’s highly portable and its hard plastic design means that it’s unlikely to break in transit when it’s packed away in your luggage.
For short or long term global travel I couldn’t find a better plug.
The only downside is that it doesn’t come with a USB port but the quality and reliability of this device makes it worth the trade-off.
FosPower FUSE International Adapter
For international travel I found the FosPower FUSE to be one of the best adapter plugs available.
It can be used in over 150 countries worldwide and comes with 4 different retractable plugs for use in Europe, Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
It’s simple to use and features a slider system for easy plug changes. Unlike other adapters that use many different plug attachments the slider system reduces the need to carry various small objects that are easy to lose.
With the dual USB ports you can charge multiple phones, mp3 players, and tablets at the same time without having to worry about sharing or not being able to fully charge a device because you only have one charging port.
This international adapter is very sturdy and, from my experience, is able to hold up to the rigors of world travel. It comes with a sleek carrying bag so it’s more able to withstand any bumps or impacts after being thrown into your backpack or suitcase.
Unfortunately, the FosPower doesn’t convert voltage but the quality and solid construction of this adapter makes it worth it to buy an additional converter.

Ceptics Small Size Travel Plug
The Ceptics small size travel plug is a great choice for anyone travelling to Asia, Australia, and Western Europe.
The device itself is very small, sleek, and elegant which is great for minimalist travelers and people who don’t want to carry too much extra gear. At only 4 ounces there are no sacrifices being made to bring this along on your trip.
This is an all-in-one plug adapter that can easily fit into the pocket of your backpack making it difficult to lose. There are no extra pieces that can be misplaced and everything comes ready to use in a tiny lightweight package. The sliding plug system makes it easy to use and this has been one of the smallest and most portable charging adapters that I’ve used.
The Ceptics travel plug only accepts a US 2-prong device so it’s great for charging phones, tablets and using it for other smaller electronics but not for a laptop. If your computer comes with a 2-prong piece like the Apple MacBook products do then the Ceptic is a great choice but otherwise you will want to consider something bigger.

EZOPower Universal Travel Plug
The EZOPower Plug with Slider is another great travel plug that can be used internationally.
The basic 4 plugs are included in the package, US, EU, AU, and UK, and it includes a 2-port USB charger for smaller electronics.
It’s designed quite well and is very sturdy. In many ways this plug is similar to the FOSPower and you can find the easy to use slider function on this one as well.
The 2-port USB charger makes it the ideal choice for travellers with a lot of electronics. It’s disappointing not being able to charge multiple devices at once but with this plug it’s possible to charge up to 3 different devices at the same time.

The Kiwifun Universal Travel Plug
The Kiwifun Universal Travel Plug is another adapter that I’d recommend checking out.
I kept coming across it when I was looking for the best travel adapter for Europe and after traveling with it for about three months I found it to be a suitable option for charging my electronics abroad.
I used it in Europe but it has for different plug options depending on where you’re traveling to. It can be used in more than 150 different countries specifically places like Europe, the United Kingdom, the United States, South America, most of Asia and even Australia.
The adapter uses a sliding design and you’re able to use the slider to quickly choose between each plug format depending on where you are and what format you need. It also comes with two USB ports which is great for charging smartphones, tablets, camera batteries, readers and anything else that you need a USB port for.
The USB port is actually removable and if you need to use the basic plug you can easily remove the USB charger.
Unfortunately, and the only drawback to this adapter, is that you can’t use the USB Ports and the plug at the same time. This can be alleviated though if you use one of those extension cord attachments that gives you more than just a single plug in option.
For most people that are traveling with just a smartphone or you just need to charge your camera batteries or plug in your computer this adapter is definitely a suitable choice.
Some more features that I like about it is the luminous logo that gives off a fair bit of light and can be used sort of like a nightlight and I like how it comes with a small bag so that everything can be stored in one place.
Overall, I would recommend the The Kiwifun Universal Travel Plug if you are just traveling with a few devices and you won’t won’t be needing to use a standard plug along with the USB charger at the same time. Keep in mind that if you use it to plug in your laptop you can then use your laptop to charge any USB devices.

The LOOP Worldwide Travel Adapter
The LOOP Worldwide Travel Adapter has become one of my favorite adapters to travel with and I consider it to be a great choice if you’re looking for the best international power adapter.
One of my favorite things about it is that it has a streamlined design, which makes it very portable and suitable for traveling with, and I’m able to charge three different devices with it at the same time.
This adapter can be used in more than 150 different countries and it’s a great choice if you’re going to be traveling to Europe, Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States.
Not only does it have a standard plug attachment on the top but there are also two USB ports for charging on the side as well. This way I can have my laptop plugged in, have my smartphone charging and still have an extra USB port that I can use to charge my eReader or GoPro batteries.
It also takes advantage of a sliding design so you just need to adjust the slider depending on where you’re traveling and which specific plug adapter you need.
For the most part I prefer the sliders because they’re easier to use if you’re traveling to more than one different country and that means I don’t need to carry as many different plugs and small parts just to charge my devices.
Overall, I would recommend the The LOOP Worldwide if you’re looking for a lightweight, portable and easy to use adapter that can charge up to three devices at the same time period.

The Best Travel Power Converter
If the electronic gear that you’re traveling with doesn’t come with a built-in converter or surge protector then you’ll want to consider traveling with separate power converter.
For smartphones and cameras you might not need a dedicated converter but if you’re traveling with a laptop or a tablet you’ll want to use one just to avoid any issues further down the line.
There’s only one that I’ve used and so far I haven’t had any problems with it so it’s what I would recommend.
The BESTEK Portable International Travel Voltage Converter
The BESTEK Portable International Travel Voltage Converter is a voltage converter that converts the voltage of any country you’re traveling to to match the voltage of your US or Canadian based device.
To make charging hassle-free it comes with three standard plug-in options and for different USB ports. If you’re traveling with a lot of different electronic devices or you’re just traveling with a partner if you need a converter then this is the one that I would recommend for you to consider.
Along with its charging capabilities it comes with three different international adapters for you to use depending on where you’re traveling. It comes with a standard EU plug but you can use the adapters (UK/US/EU) to plug-it in if you’re visiting somewhere that doesn’t use the standard EU plug.
I also found it to be a very portable and lightweight converter which made it suitable for traveling with. The power cable can be detached and is about 5-feet in length which is great in hotels, AirBnb’s and hostels where the plug sometimes isn’t in a practical or easy to reach place.
For additional safety it comes with a few different protections such as high temperature, surge, over-current and short-circuit protections and there are even a pair of cooling fans that help to keep the converter cool and further protect your devices from any problems.
I found that using it was quite simple and straightforward. Simply plug it in using the basic plug or the adapter you need and then just turn it on using the power button when you’re ready to use it. There is a small LED light that turns on and that’s when you’ll know it’s ready to use.
Overall, I would recommend the BESTEK Portable International Travel Voltage Converter if you’re traveling with larger, more power in intensive devices like a laptop, tablet or even Bluetooth speakers. It’s also practical if you have a partner and you need to charge more than just one or two devices at the same time.
