For the first few trips I took I tried folding or rolling my clothes but no matter what I did the inside of my backpack or luggage always ended up looking like a mess.
It was getting to the point where I dreaded opening my bag and finding out what happened to my stuff during transit. Organizing my gear was always a problem for me until I discovered the eBags Packing Cubes. I was so happy with them I wanted to write up an eBags Packing Cubes review to tell you guys what they’re all about and why you need them.
If you’re like me when you first heard about them you might be wondering “what in the world are packing cubes?”
They’re essentially a mesh pouch with zipper that give you the best way to organize your luggage. Rather than just tossing everything into your bags or trying your best to fold or layer everything neatly they allow you to arrange everything the way you want in a compact and easy to access fashion.
There are countless varieties and sizes of packing cubes but I’m going to go over the eBags Packing Cubes in this review. I’m going to discuss the benefits and drawbacks of using them and why I think they’re one of the most important travel essentials ever.
Ebags Packing Cube Review
- 10+ different colors available
- Sturdy and durable
- Easy to organize and access your clothing and gear
- Three different sizes – small, medium, large
- Lifetime warranty
What are they made of?
For starters, the eBags Packing Cubes are made of a mix of durable fabric and mesh. The design is surprising with many features you wouldn’t expect in something you pack your clothes in and the quality is very high. The seams are hidden in the interior of the packing cube so not only do they have a more streamlined look but they’re less likely to explode if you pack them super full.
The zippers are also premium YKK zippers that have strong nylon cords so you’ll never yank them off when you’re opening the cube. There are a variety of colors available and the mesh means you can easily find what you’re looking for and keep all your stuff organized in your luggage. And with all the different colors you can get a different set for each member of your family and not have to worry about which set of clothes belongs to you.
I hate having to take everything out of my bag looking for one pair of socks and with the eBags Packing Cubes this problem is no longer an issue.
Why should I even use the eBags Packing Cubes?
When you reach your destination you don’t want to waste time looking for a nice t-shirt or your sunscreen. Everything can be quickly arranged and organized and rather than dumping all your stuff onto the bed or floor you can find it in just a few moments in your packing cubes. You also save time when you’re packing since you’ll know that everything can fit inside and you won’t have to worry whether or not you have enough room or space for your stuff.
There are other uses for these packing cubes as well. You can even use them at home when you’re not travelling to store your clothes and gear and keep it all organized. If you like to travel last minute you can keep a set of your travel stuff already packed into one of them and just chuck it in your luggage on your way out the door. They’re also ideal for airport travel since security can quickly check your stuff rather than having to take it all out and wait for you to repack it all.
It’s also possible to keep your dirty clothes and laundry away from your clean clothes and other gear. I personally hate when my shoes get dust all over my nice clean t-shirts and with the packing cubes this no longer happens.
I even like to further organize my stuff by separating things I’ll be using for different activities. One cube will hold all my “nice” clothes and better jeans while the other one will hold my lounging tees and hiking gear. Now I don’t have to worry about ripping or damaging my stuff since it’s not all jumbled together in my bag.
What are some of the drawbacks of the eBags Packing Cubes?
The biggest problem I have is that I can’t compress my clothes and gear as much as I like. Sometimes I over pack a little bit and it’ becomes impossible to zip up the packing cube but thankfully there are ways around this. The problem is if you pack it too much it turns into a circular shape and the zipper just doesn’t work until you take some stuff out. I found if you roll your stuff you can fill it up much more efficiently and not have too much wasted space.
Another thing that bothers me is that they come in all the same color when you order a set. I guess that’s a first word problem but I wish I could mix and match the colors because I think that would look pretty cool.
My Final Thoughts
When it comes down to it I don’t think I’ll travel without some sort of packing cube. The eBags Packing Cubes are pretty good and I love using them so far but I’m keen on trying out other brands as well.
They’re super durable and heavy duty so I never worry about them ripping or getting damaged during transit. The fact that I can easily pull one of them out and quickly find what I’m looking for is a huge plus and even when I’m using my backpack they still make it easy to keep my gear and clothes organized.
