If you’re looking for a base to explore Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania, do some shopping at the Grove City Premium Outlets or you just need somewhere to spend the night on the way to your next destination then you’re going to want to consider staying at the Fairfield Inn and Suites in Monaca.
I was looking for some of the best hotels in Monaca, Pennsylvania because I wanted to get some tax-free shopping done, visit the beautiful city of Pittsburgh and explore some of the Allegheny National Forest without having to switch hotels every night or do too much driving.
The city of Monaca was the ideal base with quick and easy highway access and plenty of restaurants, shops and and other interesting places to check out nearby.
Having had such a good experience at the Fairfield Inn and Suites Monaca I wanted to write an in depth review of my stay and go over why I would recommend it to future travelers visiting the area looking for a comfortable, clean and affordable place to spend the night.
The Fairfield Inn & Suites Monaca: My Review
Check-In and Concierge
Immediately upon entering the hotel my girlfriend and I were greeted by a lovely concierge.
The young lady was very helpful in getting us checked into the hotel and spent a few moments going over all of the practical information that we would need to know.
She gave us some quick details about the room, told us where the pool and fitness room located, informed us as to when breakfast was and asked if we had any more questions regarding our stay.
She also pointed out to us that there was coffee, tea and hot chocolate available throughout the day and I found this to be a nice touch considering you don’t find this too often in budget friendly American hotel chains.
After checking in we made our way to the room and I noticed that everything in the hotel on the way to the third-floor was clean, modern and updated.
The Lobby and Breakfast Area
The lobby was very clean and there were some modern decorations and comfortable looking seating right as you walk into the hotel.
There are some newspapers available and any time that I visited the lobby there was always someone working at the front desk ready and waiting to address any concerns or answer any questions.
The breakfast area was quite large and I would guess that there was seating for at least 30 to 40 people. There was a collection of chairs and tables along with some booths at the far wall.
Additionally, there was some outdoor seating which is perfect during the warmer spring and summer months.
Both the lobby and the breakfast area were modern, bright, spacious and thoughtfully designed.
At the Fairfield Inn and Suites Monaca there is a well-equipped Weight room and a pool as well.
In the weight room you’ll find a weight bench, a selection of dumbbells and some exercise machines. The pool is quite large and could easily accommodate a few families.
Access to these areas is gained through the key card that you use to get into your room so they’re safe and private if that’s what you’re looking for.
During my visit I stayed in the King Room and there are three different types of rooms available.
The different types include:
- Queen room with two queen beds
- King studio with a sofa bed
- King room
I didn’t get a chance to look at the other rooms but the King Room that I had was very spacious and I had a nice view facing west where I could catch some incredible sunsets.
Apart from a king bed right in the center of the room there was also a desk, plenty of drawers for storage, a large television, a variety of different types of lighting, blackout curtains, a small fridge, microwave and an air conditioner.
It basically included everything one would need for an enjoyable single or multi night stay at a hotel.
I especially liked the fridge and microwave because I was able to keep some water cold for the next day and I was also able to heat up my leftovers that I brought back after visiting a nearby restaurant.
The room itself was thoughtfully designed and was full of bright colors from the carpet to the wallpaper.
It felt peaceful in the room and I was definitely able to properly relax thanks to the generally positive ambience.
The bed with a king size bed and offered more than enough space for two people to sleep.
The pillows were soft, the mattress seemed very new and was still quite firm and the sheets were very soft to the touch.
I love having a large bed and the king size bed in this hotel is the perfect size for relaxing and sleeping.
There are two types of wireless Internet available at the Fairfield Inn and Suites Monaca.
You’re able to choose from the free option or you could go with a faster, premium option that costs $5 per day.
There was actually a promotion going on at the hotel and the premium Internet was free for all visitors so I was able to take advantage of high speed Internet access.
The Wi-Fi was definitely fast enough for watching YouTube videos, uploading photos to Instagram, checking up on Facebook and perfect for browsing the Internet.
I’m not a big fan of watching too much television but there was a large flat screen TV in the room, which would be great to watch after a long day of exploring or shopping.
It was ideally positioned on the counter at the end of the bed and its height was optimal for watching while you’re laying down.
There was and air conditioner in the room which worked well and kept the room very cool during the hot early summer day that I experienced in western Pennsylvania.
Apart from that, the microwave and small fridge were a nice touch.
Similar to the sleeping area the bathroom was quite spacious and featured a large glass stand-up shower.
There were plenty of towels available and there was enough room at the sink to spread out your own bathroom toiletries.
A selection of amenities were included such as hand soap and a few different face and body washes for taking a shower.
All of the bathroom amenities were provided by Paul Mitchell, smelled nice and seemed to me to be very high-quality.
I checked the cost for random dates in September 2016 and the prices range from about $170 to $214 per night depending on which room you get.
Breakfast is included in the price and there was a fair selection of different foods available.
Some of the options included:
- Coffee, tea, juice
Free parking is available on-site right outside of the hotel.
There are plenty of spots so you don’t have to worry about availability and depending on which direction your room faces you’ll be able to keep an eye on your car all night.
The hotel is located on the outskirts of the city of Monaca, Pennsylvania.
Within one hour it’s possible to reach the Grove City Premium Outlets and the city of Pittsburgh.
The Allegheny National Forest is also a short drive away and the Ohio River is only a few minutes away by car.
Nearby to the hotel is a large shopping mall, a collection of restaurants, Wal-Mart and some gas stations.
The Fairfield Inn and Suites Monaca is a comfortable, modern and updated place to stay.
The rooms are lovely, the staff is attentive and wonderful and its location makes for a great base to explore the surrounding area.
Overall, I would definitely recommend this hotel if you’re looking for somewhere affordable to stay in Monaca, Pennsylvania and where you’ll be able to enjoy the comfort and amenities that you would normally find at home.
