Shortly before Christmas I spent 4 days in Paris.
I’ve been to Paris quite a few times before. On this trip I was visiting to check out all of the Christmas lights, festivals, and any other holiday markets in the city.
With so many different hotels to choose from in the city it can be tricky to find somewhere to stay. I always recommend staying somewhere that offers a great location, comfortable rooms, and that’s reasonably priced.
For the first two nights of my trip I stayed at the Hôtel Le Rocroy in the 10th Arrondissement.
In this post I want to share with you the experience that I had at this hotel. I also want to go over why I’d recommend staying if you’re looking for a great hotel in Paris!
The Hôtel Le Rocroy in Paris
The Hôtel Le Rocroy is a member of the HipHopHostels network.
This is a network of 16 independent hostels and hotels in Paris. Each of the hotels and hostels have their own unique personality. The properties focus on providing guests with affordable and French-style accommodation so that visitors to Paris can make the most of their stay.
This results in a much more welcoming type of accommodation that you don’t typically find with chain hotels or larger properties.
As soon as I walked through the main entrance into the lobby I was quickly greeted by a friendly receptionist. Throughout my stay the receptionist’s would continue to ask how everything was going. One of them even shared some helpful information that made my time in Paris even better!
At the hotel you’ll find a variety of different rooms to choose from. This makes it easier to find something that meets your budget requirements or any of your accommodation preferences.
In the basement is an exposed stone breakfast room where you can enjoy a typical French breakfast before heading out to explore the city.
Some other features of the hotel include air-conditioning, reliable Wi-Fi, and desks in all of the rooms. There’s even a pool table in the lobby where you can play a quick game of pool with your travel partners before heading back up to your room.
Now that I’ve given you a little bit more information about the hotel let’s just dive right into my review!
The Hôtel Le Rocroy in Paris [Review]
Check-In and Interior
I arrived at the hotel quite early. It was a short 5 minute walk from the Gare Du Nord train station.
I wasn’t able to check in so the receptionist secured my bags in a private luggage room. The lobby seemed welcoming but I decided to explore the city for a little while before coming back to check in.
Once I got back the receptionist shared with me the information I needed about the hotel and give me some details about the surrounding area.
Instead of heading up to my room right away I relaxed in the bright lobby for a short while. The lobby featured a contemporary design with modern furniture.
I was surprised to see a pool table right in the center of the lobby. This is something you don’t find too often in hotels. I was glad the pool table was there as it helped to add a more communal vibe to the lobby area.
After relaxing in the lobby I decided to make my way up to the room. The elevator was small and old but it worked just fine. I made it up to my room without any problems.
With such a modern-looking lobby I assumed the rest of the hotel would follow a similar style. Unfortunately, the hallway leading up to my room appeared quite dated and was in definite need of a new carpet and fresh coat of paint.
Apart from that, the rest of the hotel was clean and I didn’t notice anything else out of place or in need of renovation.
During my stay at the Hôtel Le Rocroy I was in a double room on one of the higher floors.
The room itself was spacious considering how small hotel rooms typically are in Paris. There was a large window that provided plenty of natural light into the room and offered a great view of the city down below.
I believe the room must have been soundproofed as I barely heard any of the other guests or any noise from the street during my stay.
Along with a large, comfortable bed some of the other features of the room included a desk, tea and coffee making facilities, a small fridge, and a small stool.
There was nothing particularly unique about the room itself although having so much space is great, especially when you’re traveling with a partner.
Overall, I found the room to be perfectly well equipped for two people for a short-term stay in Paris. There aren’t any changes I would have preferred. If you’re looking for something basic and reasonably priced then you can’t go wrong with a double room at the Hôtel Le Rocroy.
At first glance the bathroom seemed properly put together, well maintained, and clean.
However, after spending some time in the bathroom this is definitely one area where the hotel needs to make immediate improvements.
The bathroom itself was spacious and came equipped with some amenities that you might want when you’re traveling.
A selection of towels was provided and there was also a hair dryer available.
Compared to some of the other hotels I’ve stayed at in Paris the bathroom was definitely more spacious than most. This might be something to keep an eye out for if you’re planning a visit to the city and you want a larger bathroom space for getting ready in the morning.
Unfortunately, there were some problems in the bathroom.
The floor was rather dirty and in serious need of a deep clean. Part of the floor tiles were coming apart from the wall. This was the case in the shower as well.
As for the shower, the water immediately started to build up instead of draining. Black specks were floating in the water out of the drain and this made for a very unpleasant shower experience.
Just looking around the bathroom you could see that it hadn’t been updated, renovated, or properly cleaned in quite some time.
I can’t say for sure whether all the bathrooms at the hotel are like this.
Apart from the issues with overall cleanliness and maintenance the bathroom was a good size for one or two people and it did come with helpful travel amenities.
Depending on the type of room that you choose nightly rates for the Hôtel Le Rocroy start from around $100 USD.
Considering how expensive hotels in Paris can be I find this to be a competitive rate for a 3-star hotel in the city center.
Some of the rates include breakfast. I recommend looking one of these rates if there’s one available. The breakfast at the hotel is decent. It makes for a great way to start your day without having to find breakfast on your own.
As always, I recommend booking your room as soon as you have confirmed your travel dates. This will help you find the best possible rates and avoid any issues with room availability.
One of my favorite things about the Hôtel Le Rocroy was its great location in central Paris.
The hotel is a short 5 minute walk away from the Gare Du Nord train station. This makes it really easy to get to the property if you’re arriving by train.
The other popular train station in Paris, Gare de l’Est, is slightly further away. It can still be reached in less than 10 minutes if you’re walking.
There are a few different Paris Metro stations nearby as well. Within 5 to 10 minutes you can hop on to a variety of different metro lines and quickly make it to anywhere you want to visit in the city.
Alternatively, you can even take the bus. The closest bus stop is down the block with a handful more less than 5 minutes away on foot.
Surrounding the hotel are a wide range of small shops, restaurants, bakeries, cafes, and grocery stores. You can find just about anything you would ever need for a short-term visit in the city.
To walk to places like the Louvre, Notre Dame Cathedral, or the Latin quarter would take about 40 minutes. Montmartre and Sacre-Coeur are about 15 minutes away.
Since Paris is so spread out you’re going to need to use the Metro regardless of where you’re planning to visit. From this hotel it’s really easy to use any form of public transportation and quickly get around the city.
Like I mentioned, one of the best things about the Hôtel Le Rocroy is its great location in the center of Paris. If you’re looking for a hotel that’s close to public transportation and that makes it easy to explore the city then this is definitely where you’re going to want to look into staying.
Paris is an amazing place to visit and it’s especially magical during the Christmas season.
With so many different hotels to choose from it can be hard to find somewhere that’s worth staying. That’s why I like staying somewhere new each time. This way I can make personal recommendations for my readers based on my experiences.
Personally, I have no problem recommending the Hôtel Le Rocroy for a short-term stay in Paris.
The location is great for exploring the city. The rooms are reasonably priced for a 3-star hotel. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and able to help you with any of your Paris planning needs.
Apart from a few small issues with the bathroom I had an amazing at this hotel.
For the price and location you can’t go wrong with the Hôtel Le Rocroy. I definitely recommend checking it out if you’re planning a trip to Paris.
I’ve also stayed at a few other hotels in the city. Feel free to check out my reviews for different properties down below:

One more thing I would like to know is that I would recommend taking a look at the Paris Pass to use during your trip. This is a great tourist card that will help you save money and skip the line on some of the main attractions in the city.
