With so many different hotels in London to choose from it can be hard to find one that meets all of your requirements.
London is an enormous city with so much to see and do. It’s tricky to determine beforehand which areas you’re going to like the most and which are the best for sightseeing and exploring.
In the city center hotel prices are quite high. The size of the city means you’re probably going to need a public transportation pass to get around. This means you don’t need to stay somewhere with a super central location since you’re probably going to be using public transportation to get between all of the different tourist sites.
In that case I recommend saving a little bit of money and staying somewhere just outside of the city center that offers easy access to public transportation.
During my visit to London I was lucky enough to be able to spend two nights at the KIP Hotel. This is definitely where I would recommend staying if you’re looking for somewhere cozy and comfortable. The hotel is reasonably priced and offers a great location for exploring the city.
Today, I want to share with you the experience that I had at the KIP Hotel.
I’ll be going over an in-depth review of my stay. I’ll be sharing with you some helpful information about the property.
Hopefully I’ll be able to convince you to stay at this hotel. I found it to be one of the best hotels for budget-minded travelers in all of London.
The KIP Hotel in London
What you’ll find at the KIP Hotel is simple yet contemporary accommodation for a competitive rate.
Visiting London can be expensive, but it doesn’t have to be if you’re smart about where you stay.
The KIP strives to provide its guests with everything you need for a short-term stay in the city without going overboard with unwanted frills and expensive add ons.
What you get is a comfortable room, fast Wi-Fi, and somewhere to stay the night without having to spend hundreds of dollars.
At the KIP guests can choose from a variety of different rooms depending on their budget. There are options for those trying to keep costs low as well as a few options for those with a little bit extra to spend.
Depending on your preferences and budget you can choose from a shared room with bunk beds, a small private room with a shared bathroom, and even larger rooms, some of which come with kitchen/cooking facilities.
Above all else, guests at the KIP are able to enjoy free hot coffee and tea 24 hours a day – one of my favorite things about the hotel!
Now that I’ve shared with you some introductory information about the property let’s just dive right into my review!
KIP Hotel Review
Check-In and Interior
Finding the hotel can be a bit tricky if you don’t know what to look for.
The entrance is shared with the neighboring Travelodge so it can be a bit confusing when you first show up.
All you need to do is hit the buzzer on the door and stick to the right until you get to the elevator. The elevator will bring you right up to the reception area and from there you can check in and make your way to the room.
The reception area is a cozy and minimalist space with some dark mood lighting.
There is always somebody working at the front desk. Someone is always available to help you check in or provide you with any information you might need about the hotel or your trip to London.
The check-in process takes no time at all. While the receptionist is processing your information you can browse through the different pamphlets on the wall or just enjoy a hot coffee drink while you wait.
Once you’re ready you’ll probably have to hop back on the elevator to get to your room.
There isn’t any fancy waiting area or any lobby where you can sit down and relax. Feel free to stop by the Costa Coffee just around the corner from the hotel if you’re looking for somewhere to hang out.
On the way to the room I noticed that the hallways were well kept and featured simple design elements.
Everything helped to make my visit more welcoming. I could tell there was a focus on the rooms rather than spending too much effort on having fancy and done-up hallways.
From what I could tell, the rest of the hotel was designed with a modern and clean style.
During my stay I was in a large double room. The room had a large window with a great view of the Hackney Central Station and some of the surrounding area.
Having the window was great. I know that some of the rooms don’t come with windows. Some people might find this depressing while others might prefer not having a window at all. Keep this in mind if you’re planning on staying at this hotel.
The room was a decent size for London. It featured a large double bed, small desk, private bathroom, air conditioning, a flat screen TV, and plenty of storage space for clothes and luggage.
The large window that in plenty of natural light and there was also a light on the wall that provided indirect lighting for the entire room.
Even with the room looking over the Hackney Central Station I barely heard anything during our stay.
I assume the rooms are soundproofed and the only time I heard anybody else was when the person in the neighboring room opened or closed their door.
Throughout the room there were plenty of outlets for keeping my electronics charged.
I found the internet to be faster than most of the other hotels I’ve stayed at and I was able to upload photos and videos without any problems.
The TV came equipped with a wide range of different channels as well as YouTube capability.
Overall, I found the room to be comfortable, spacious, and perfectly well equipped for a short-term stay in London.
The bathroom at the KIP Hotel was fairly small but was fully equipped for a short-term stay.
Inside the bathroom was a stand up shower, an assortment of towels, a towel heater, and soap and shampoo in pump bottles.
There wasn’t very much counter space for storing your own amenities.
Despite being rather small, the bathroom was completely functional and came with everything one would need.
I really enjoyed the heated towel rack. This made it possible to enjoy a warm and dry towel whenever I used the shower. I also used the towel rack to warm up my socks before putting them on for the day.
I suppose it’s common in London to have a smaller bathroom, especially considering the spacious size of the hotel room itself.
Apart from the smaller bathroom space I have no other complaints about the bathroom. I found it to be decently suited for one or two people for a short-term stay.
Depending on the type of room that you choose and how far in advance you book you can find rates for the KIP Hotel starting at around $59 USD and ranging up to $175 USD per night.
Considering how expensive accommodation is in London I would say that these prices are quite reasonable, especially if you’re traveling on a budget.
There are hostels in the center that would cost you around $60 USD so it’s incredible that you can get a private room at the KIP for a similar rate.
Keep in mind that there isn’t a breakfast included but you do get to take advantage of free coffee and tea every day. I loved being able to grab a flat white before heading out for the day and enjoying a hot coffee drink when I got back to the room.
For two people your daily accommodation costs at the KIP Hotel are going to be lower. This way you can splurge for a larger, more comfortable room.
As always, I recommend booking your room as far in advance as possible. This is going to help get you the best rate and you’ll avoid any possible issues with availability.
The KIP Hotel is located right beside the Hackney Central Station in the heart of the Hackney neighborhood in London.
I suppose this area used to be quite dodgy back in the day. These days it’s an up-and-coming neighborhood not far from the city center.
Surrounding the hotel are a wide variety of restaurants, shops, cafes, and other cool places to check out. There’s even a large park across the street where you can enjoy a morning walk before heading into the city.
Being so close to the public transportation system is a huge benefit and one of the best features of the hotel.
In less than 5 minutes you can leave your room and hop on to the overground train into Central London. In under 30 minutes you can reach just about all of the main tourist attractions or any of the main transportation hubs if you need to get to the airport or train station.
I really love the location because you get to experience a different part of London while still being well-connected to anywhere you might want to visit.
I ended up walking to Brick Lane for breakfast one morning so I was glad to check out some of the different neighborhoods instead of just being stuck in the heart of the tourist area.
It’s also great being just outside of the center as it’s much more relaxing than the constant hustle and unending noise that you find when you’re more central.
Given the size and sprawl of London you’re going to need to pick up a public transportation pass regardless of where you stay so it’s not really an additional cost since it’s something you need anyways.
I was quite surprised by how fast the internet was at the KIP.
I had no trouble connecting to the wifi and I was able to upload photos and videos to YouTube without any problems at all.
It was even possible to stream Netflix and YouTube videos in 4K resolution – something I rarely come across when I’m staying at hotels.
In this case, I would definitely recommend the KIP if you’re a digital nomad or someone working online that needs fast and reliable internet access.
I had a great time staying at the KIP Hotel in London.
I personally recommending staying here. It’s an amazing choice if you’re visiting the city and looking for somewhere reasonably priced. It provides a great location for exploring Central London and all of the main tourist sights in the city.
There are a variety of different rooms to choose from depending on your budget. The hotel is simple and modern with comfortable rooms and all of the amenities you would need for a short-term stay.
The easy access to public transportation makes it really easy to get around and there is a lot to do in the Hackney neighborhood even if you don’t feel like venturing into the center.
Overall, I found the KIP Hotel to be one of my favorite places to stay in London and I would definitely recommend checking it out if you’re planning a visit to the city.
I also want to recommend checking out my post on the London Pass. This is an amazing tourist card that you can use to save money on visiting some of the main tourist attractions in the city.
