There were actually quite a few different options available but I didn’t feel like sitting on a crowded bus or having to navigate my way through the Slovenian rail system in the winter so I opted for a private transfer between the two cities instead.
It was GoOpti that came up when I left for a transfer connection between Ljubljana and Salzburg so after checking out their wonderfully designed website I decided to go ahead and take them up on their transfer service.
I know that there are plenty of options available for getting between the two cities so I wanted to leave a review of my experience with GoOpti so that I could inform other travelers about their awesome service and give some insight on one of the best ways to travel between Ljubljana and Salzburg.
Ljubljana to Salzburg with GoOpti
Who is GoOpti?
If you’re like me then you probably have never heard of GoOpti before.
Well, since 2011 GoOpti has been offering both private and shared transfers between different cities throughout Central Europe.
It’s their goal to provide reliable and low-cost transfers with a focus on making sure that passengers are able to enjoy and enjoyable and comfortable experience as they travel from one city to the next.
GoOpti offers a wide range of different transfers between countless cities.
Some of their major hubs includes the cities of :
As for their transportation they offer three different options that you can choose from if you’re interested in a transfer between two different cities.
The three choices include:
OPTI Transfer is a shared shuttle ride with door-to-door service and a flexible pick up time.
FIX Transfer is also a shared shuttle ride but you’re able to choose a specific pick up time and you can also take advantage of door-to-door service.
VIP Transfer is there private transfer option and you’re able to choose a specific pick-up time as well as take advantage of door-to-door service.
Basically, if you don’t have a set travel time on your specific day of departure and you want to save some money then I’d recommend the OPTI.
if you have somewhere to be during a specific time frame and you still want to save a bit of money then I would recommend the FIX.
If you want to travel in style without having to share your transportation and you have somewhere to be at a specific time then I recommend taking the VIP.
My Experience with GoOpti
For my experience with GoOpti I went with the FIX transfer choice.
Since I was staying in the Ljubljana Old Town, which is a pedestrian only zone, I actually had to walk a short distance to a specific pick-up point but this wasn’t a problem at all.
I arrived more than 15 minutes early and just a few minutes after I got there the transfer arrived, more than 10 minutes earlier than it needed to be.
Right away the driver got out, introduced himself and began loading our luggage into the trunk of the van.
After getting into the van the driver offered us some bottled water and gave us a little bit of information about our trip to Salzburg.
The van on the inside was very clean, spacious, comfortable and the tinted windows were a great touch especially after having to wake up early during that foggy winter morning in Slovenia.
There were only four people in my transfer van but it’s possible that it can accommodate 6 people, or 7 people if someone sits up front.
Right at 10 a.m. everyone was already there and the driver promptly began our journey to Salzburg.
One thing that I do find unusual about the transfer was that there was a sign saying that there was no eating allowed inside the van.
I can understand why because it can get quite messy and hard to clean if everybody is eating something during every transfer but I had never experienced that before and it was just something unusual that I happened to notice.
The Ride from Ljubljana to Salzburg
It’s only a few hours of driving between the two cities and almost immediately after leaving Ljubljana we were on the highway towards the Austrian border.
The ride itself was pretty uneventful and the driver made too well-announced stops at two different gas stations along the way.
This way you’re able to use the washroom if you need to or buy something to drink if you happen to get thirsty.
Both times we stopped for approximately 15 minutes and the driver even told us our exact departure time so there was no reason for anyone to be late or miss the departure.
I pretty much slept the entire journey but the views from the van were incredible.
Along almost the entire route there are incredible mountain views and the road takes you through dense forests, tunnels and you even pass by a few different small villages.
There was some light traffic as we got to Salzburg but that wasn’t at all a problem in the warm and comfortable transfer van.
The driver seemed to know the streets very well and was able to navigate his way to our hotel without any issues or without having to ask us directions.
As soon as we arrived at the hotel the driver immediately got out and began to help us get our bags out of the van.
He asked if there was anything else we needed, if we needed a transfer somewhere else and after shaking hands he wished us a good day and got back into the van to drive away.
Overall Experience and Recommendation
Overall, I had a wonderful experience on my transfer with GoOpti.
The van was very comfortable and the driver was professional, knowledgeable and very helpful when it came to loading and unloading our luggage.
If you’re looking for an affordable, reliable and comfortable door-to-door shared or transfer service throughout Central Europe then I would definitely recommend checking out GoOpti and seeing if any of their routes are applicable to your transportation requirements.
I’ve come to love private transfers because it’s a lot easier to use them compare to taking the train or bus and the prices are always quite reasonable, especially if you go with the shared transfer options.
I had an awesome experience with GoOpti and I can’t wait to take advantage of their services again the next time traveling throughout Central Europe.
