Design hotels are growing in popularity throughout all of Europe so when I had the chance to stay at the Miura Design Hotel in Celadna I jumped at the opportunity.
I’ve stayed at two design hotels before, one in the Czech Republic and one in Switzerland, so I thought I knew what to expect at this one in Celadna gmbut boy did it ever exceed my already very high expectations.
I chose this hotel because I was looking for somewhere to stay on my way to Krakow and it looked like it was situated in a peaceful and natural area without too many tourists or other people around.
Thankfully, this was the case and I was able to enjoy my stay at the hotel without having to worry about any of the busy tourist crowds or traffic that you find in more popular areas.
In Celadna, the small town that the hotel is near, there are plenty of options for hiking and other outdoor activities along with a small selection of restaurants, bakeries and a few other things to do.
The area is actually very well known for its skiing and during the summer it’s a popular place for people to come to golf amongst the beautiful surroundings.
In this post I want to share my experience at the hotel but before I get into that I want to go over a few introductory details.
The Miura Design Hotel
The Miura Design Hotel is nestled in a quiet valley right below the Besydky Mountains.
Surrounding the hotel are forested mountain peaks, fast flowing streams and a wide array of other natural features that act to enhance the setting.
Upon first glance you can quickly notice that the hotel isn’t designed like any other and it takes on more of a unique and memorable appearance thanks to the sharp sides and contemporary steel construction.
To me it actually looks like something out of the future and the sharp, jutting corners and eye-catching design truly reveal how much work went into creating this piece of art that takes the shape of a hotel.
It’s not only the construction that’s memorable and before you even enter the building you’re bound to catch a glimpse of these metallic structures that look like giants hanging around off the edge of the building.
These are actually statues that were designed and made by the famous Czech David Cerny although it’s not only his artwork that you’ll see throughout the building.
In the lobby and throughout the rest of the hotel are a series of different specially commissioned pieces of artwork as well as unique furniture that has been designed but some of Europe’s best designers.
On the inside you’ll find a small gallery along with pieces of artwork from such famous artists as Andy Warhol and Damien Hirst.
As for the hotel itself there are 43 rooms available and each one offers a great view of the golf course and forested mountains off in the distance.
Free parking is available, Wi-Fi can be accessed throughout the entire hotel and there’s even an impressive spa on the ground level which features a large soaking pool and a variety of different steam/cold rooms.
Now that you know a little bit more about the hotel let’s take a look at my review as well as the experience that I had staying here.
My Miura Design Hotel Review
Check In and Interior
After parking right out front I made my way into the main building and walked up to the reception desk centered in the lobby.
Before I even made it to the receptionist I couldn’t help but check out the interior of the lobby and I was already impressed by the contemporary design and large open space that made it seem a lot bigger than it was.
The check-in process itself went very smoothly and the young lady working took down some of my details and provided me with all of the information I needed to know about the hotel.
I was directed to my room but before going up to check my room out I went down to the spa to see if it was busy and to see what it offered.
The spa was quite big and apart from a large plunge pool there were also a variety of different rooms that offered different features including a steam room, a cold room and some more relaxing rooms.
Once I finished looking around the spa I finally made my way up to the room.
On the way there I noticed a few other pieces of artwork and even in the hallway leading up to my room there was an incredible view out over the parking lot towards a different part of the mountains that surrounded the area.
Everything I noticed so far was very modern, contemporary and thoughtfully designed which only added to the overall design luxury experience.
As soon as I opened the door to my room I noticed the high ceilings as well as a large window at the end of the living space.
I walked over to the window and it was actually a glass door, kind of like a French balcony, that opened up and offered an incredible view of the surrounding countryside and mountains.
After admiring the view for a while I turned around to see what else was in the room.
Even in the room the design element was very apparent of just the painted walls or wallpaper the walls of the room were actually exposed concrete.
This might sound unusual but it actually helped enhance the overall positive feeling of the interior living space and it made the room seem larger and less stuffy.
All of this was helped by the high ceilings and even though it was the end of July you could hardly tell as the interior temperature was quite reasonable.
Sitting in the middle of the room was a large bed and surprisingly there was also a sink in the main area as well.
In the bathroom, where you would actually expect to find the sink, was just the toilet and a large shower.
I really like to the interior bathroom design and the dark tiles gave the space a much more intimate and contemporary feel.
There was also a desk in the room, a comfortable chair and at the entrance was a smaller enclosed space where there was storage for luggage as well as the safe and closet area.
The view and all of the contemporary design features really helped in making the room seemed like something much more unique than you would find at a more classic or traditional hotel and overall this really helped enhance the experience of my stay.
The bathroom itself was another unique feature of my stay at the Miura Design Hotel.
What made it unique was the fact that the sink was located outside of the bathroom itself and the actual bathroom turned into more of a large shower area rather than just a dedicated bathroom space.
I’m not sure if there are other rooms where the sink is in the bathroom itself but having it on the outside could definitely be a little bit awkward if the person you’re traveling with is just a friend or family member and not a significant other.
I didn’t find this to be a problem at all and it actually made the bathroom seemed a lot bigger without a sink taking up a significant amount of space.
The interior of the actual bathroom matched the interior of the room itself so rather than tiles the walls were actually left exposed and the concrete was bare.
Obviously it’s not just a basic concrete and some effort has been taken to add a darker color to it although I came to prefer this design as tiles can get quite dirty or slippery compared to the interior concrete that had a much more personal and welcoming feel to it.
When I took a shower it seemed that everything on the interior got quite wet but this wasn’t a problem since the sink was located outside of the room so I didn’t have to worry about getting my socks or feet wet when I needed to use the tap.
As one would expect towels and amenities were provided.
A few different fresh smelling shampoos and body washes were available along with hand soap and some other amenities such as body lotion, shower cap and even a comb.
Overall, there was nothing inherently special about the bathroom but its lack of gaudy features or obnoxious design is what made it so unique and practical to use.
I checked the price for a double room for random dates in October and if you’re planning on staying at this hotel you can expect to pay about $140 USD total.
This price includes breakfast and given its unique design aspect along with its great location and spa access I would definitely say that this is amazing value for what you receive at this hotel.
Keep in mind that depending on the time of year you book you might run into issues with availability so I recommend booking as far in advance as possible so that you are able to secure the best rate.
For business travelers, those working online or anyone looking to stay connected with friends and family back home it’s always important to have a fast and reliable internet connection whenever you’re staying at a hotel.
Thankfully, the speeds at this hotel were quite fast and I didn’t have any issues uploading photos or even YouTube videos within a reasonable time frame.
Getting online was easy and there weren’t any weird methods needed to access the internet.
While it’s important to spend time outdoors that exploring when you’re visiting a new area it’s always nice to have fast and reliable internet and this is what you can expect if you’re staying at this hotel.
Whether you’re looking to spend a few days in the summer hiking or golfing or you want to get some skiing in during the weekend in the winter the location of the Miura Design Hotel is ideal regardless of what it is you’re looking to do.
I used it as a mid-way point on my way to Krakow and for those traveling throughout the region it’s a very comfortable and memorable place to spend the night.
The hotel is located just a short drive away from the very small town of Celadna but you’ll be able to find a few different restaurants, cafes, bakeries and even a small grocery store all within a short drive.
There is also access to a few hiking trails and the hotel itself is right on a golf course so you don’t have to venture very far to hit the links or get a nice hike in.
As for public transportation, I’m not sure if it’s possible to reach the area without a car and even if you did arrive by train it wouldn’t be that practical to walk or take a taxi to the hotel so I would recommend visiting by car.
Like I mentioned above many of the rates include breakfast and you’re definitely going to want to take advantage of it before heading out for the day.
The breakfast was very well done and apart from a small mishap I had with the coffee machine it was one of the more higher quality and memorable breakfasts that I experienced in the few weeks that I had been traveling.
A range of different juices was available and it was possible to choose from a variety of different coffee drinks or tea depending on your preferences.
A selection of pastries was laid out and there were quite a few options when it came to the different cereals and toppings available for it.
Apart from that there were some hot food options as well as some cold options including sliced cheese, meat and even some seafood based dishes as well.
Finally, a few different desserts were available to choose from and if you arrive early you can even grab an awesome seat on the balcony where you’re able to enjoy an incredible view of the forested mountains off in the distance while you eat your breakfast.
The hotel is not only popular for its combination but it’s also very well known in the region for its incredible on-site restaurant.
I wasn’t able to eat at the restaurant myself so I would recommend checking out the reviews online and looking at the menu.
Many of the things I read online rated the restaurant very highly and even after checking out the menu I was quite surprised by the amount of delicious-sounding options.
The restaurant is quite popular, especially on weekends, so be sure to call ahead and make a reservation if you’re interested in eating there.
It’s likely that you will be arriving to this hotel by car and there are plenty of free parking spaces available right out front of the lobby.
The area is very safe so I didn’t worry about leave my car outside overnight and I even noticed a few cameras which only further added to the overall feeling of security I had in regards to my car.
During the day and into the evening many people visiting to go golfing or to eat something at the restaurant so if you’re visiting during a busy hour there might not be as many spots available.
The hotel is very easy to find if you’re using GPS and it’s only a short drive away from the main road so you don’t have to worry about getting lost.
I had a very pleasant and memorable stay at the Miura Design Hotel and I would highly recommend checking it out if you’re visiting the area and looking for a reasonably priced hotel.
Many different aspects of my stay were quite unique including all of the different artwork and interior design as well as the amazing spa and memorable views of the surrounding area.
Whether you’re interested in golfing, artwork, skiing or you just want to get away from the city for a bit and relax you’ll definitely want to check out the Miura Design Hotel where you can spend a day or more in luxury and harmony.
