The Gaspe Peninsula is one of the most beautiful places in all of Canada and no trip to the Maritimes is complete without spending at least a few nights here in Eastern Quebec.
While there are plenty of small towns along the peninsula coastal route one of the towns that stands out the most and that you’re definitely going to want to spend at least a day in is the beautiful and charming town of Percé.
During my visit to Percé I spent two nights at the recently updated and modern Riotel Percé right in the heart of town with a prime location on the water.
There are quite a few options for accommodation but I would definitely argue that the Riotel is going to provide you with the highest standard of quality and is likely going to result in a memorable experience for you during a short-term visit in Percé.
Not only is the location amazing with the hotel comes with a wide range of different amenities that you can take advantage of during your stay as well as on on-site restaurant that’s one of the best rated in the immediate area.
Regardless of whether you’re planning on spending your days hiking and exploring the Gaspe or you just want to relax in a beautiful setting the Riotel has it all.
Today, I want to talk about the Riotel Percé and why I would definitely recommend it if you’re planning on visiting the Gaspe Penninsula in Quebec.
The Riotel Percé: The Best Accommodation in Gaspe
Although there are a variety of different hotels in Gaspe along with smaller bed and breakfasts and other options for accommodation, there really isn’t anything available to choose from that’s as modern and well-equipped for guests as the Riotel.
Of course, if you’re on a tight budget or if you’re looking for something that’s going to give you a much more personal experience like what you would find at a smaller inn or B&B then this hotel isn’t going to be of much interest to you.
Otherwise, the Riotel features updated rooms, an incredible on site restaurant, world-class service, and plenty of amenities that you’ll be able to enjoy while you’re on your trip.
Personally, I chose to stay at the Riotel because of its prime location on the Gaspe Peninsula.
It’s in the perfect place if you want to explore the surrounding area, go whale watching, spend your day hiking, relaxing by the beach, or just escape from busy city life and spend some time in a beautiful natural area.
It’s also not as far away as the actual town of Gaspe and there is plenty to do nearby so that you don’t have to feel as secluded or far away from everything depending on what type of trip you’re looking to go on.
My Stay at the Riotel Percé
I spent two nights at the hotel in a beautiful superior room in a different building just steps away from the main hotel building.
One of the best features of the room was that it came equipped with a balcony that offered an incredible view of the famous Percé Rock so I could relax and enjoy the scenery all from the comfort of the spacious balcony.
The room itself was surprisingly spacious and featured two comfortable queen size beds, two leather chairs in a small seating area, a desk workspace, and plenty of storage space for luggage and clothing.
The large sliding door window let in a lot of natural light and this helped to give the room a brighter and more airy feeling which was very welcoming after spending so long on the road.
The view was simply incredible and you could easily see the Percé Rock and the water from anywhere that you were standing in the room.
Some of the other amenities included a coffee machine, refrigerator, microwave, iPod compatible alarm clock, and a suitable amount of lighting and charging sockets.
Having good wifi is important to me as a travel blogger and out of all the places that I visited during my 3 week Maritimes road trip the Riotel Percé had the best wireless internet out of anywhere else so I was able to get quite a lot of work done and enjoy fast internet speeds during my stay.
Overall, I found the room to be perfectly well-equipped for two people for a short-term stay and there was plenty of space for relaxing and just enjoying our time in the Gaspe.
I noticed online that the bathrooms in the superior rooms at the Riotel had been most recently updated in 2016 and I was pleased to find that the bathroom we had was modern, clean, and boasted a simple and minimalistic design.
The bathroom was divided into two different parts – one area had the sink and right beside it, in a smaller room with a door, was the toilet and shower.
I actually prefer this type of layout because it means that my girlfriend can be using the shower or toilet and I can be using the sink area at the same time which makes it a lot easier to get ready in the morning rather than bumping into each other or having to waste time waiting.
In the shower was a rainfall shower head, a nice luxurious touch, as well as the normal shower hose.
All of the amenities that you would need for a short-term stay were provided such as soap, shampoo, lotion, and a range of different sized towels.
The bathroom itself was rather spacious, extremely clean, and perfectly equipped for two people for a short-term stay at the hotel.
Depending on the type of room that you choose and how far in advance you book rates for the hotel start at around $80.
This is very reasonable considering the quality of the property as well as the nearby options for accommodation and it’s a good choice whether you’re a budget traveler or looking for something a little bit more mid-range.
One of the best parts about the hotel was it’s amazing location right on the water.
The waterfront location meant that some of the rooms had an incredible view of the Percé Rock and even if your room didn’t come with a few of the rock you could easily step into the restaurant or head outside for the view.
There was a restaurant at the property as well as plenty of options for dining nearby.
From the hotel you can easily access a few different hiking trails as well as a whale watching excursion and other tours in the area.
Free parking is available on the property.
The area is very safe and I had no problems leaving my car out in the parking lot overnight.
Along with plenty of options for eating out in the town of Percé there is also a highly rated restaurant at the hotel, Paqbo.
At the restaurant you’ll be able to enjoy an amazing view of the Percé Bay and of the rock while you’re eating.
This is definitely where you’re going to want to head if you’re looking to try some trendy Maritime cuisine or if you’re looking for a quick bite to eat for breakfast before heading out for the day.
Don’t hesitate to check out some reviews on TripAdvisor of the restaurant to get a better idea of what you can expect if you’re planning on visiting.
At the hotel there is a spa, the Oblivio Spa, and here you can give your body a break and enjoy some relaxing treatments during your visit to Percé.
The spa facilities are relatively new and modern and you can take advantage of the massage therapy and body care services during the summer months of your visit.
The prices are quite reasonable and there aren’t any other spas in the area so you’ll definitely want to check it out if you’re looking to truly relax and get rid of some stress during your trip.
Along with everything I’ve already mentioned there are some other amenities and services at the hotel that you can use as a guest.
For those of you traveling with children, accommodation is free for kids under 18 and there are free meals available for children under 5.
There is a wonderful outdoor hot tub with a beautiful view of the rock and the bay enabling you to dive further into a relaxed state.
There is also a campfire right on the water so that you can relax after a long day of traveling with a roaring fire crackling by your feet.
Some other services include an electric car recharging station meeting rooms for business travelers, and super fast free fiber optic internet in all the rooms and common areas.
When it comes to the best hotels on the Gaspe Penninsula you don’t need to look any further than the Riotel Percé.
The location is wonderful, the property is modern and updated, and the hotel comes equipped with everything you would need for your time here in eastern Quebec.
With all of the different amenities available, the quality of service that’s offered, and all of the other great features I would definitely recommend checking out the Riotel Percé and considering staying here during your visit to Percé.
