When it comes to the best travel adapter there are actually so many different options to choose from these days that it can be hard to know which ones are worth using and which ones should be avoided.
I recently picked up the Skross World Adapter MUV USB And I wanted to do a little bit of a Skross travel adapter review to let you know what I think about it and why I think it’s well suited for most travelers.
Over the years I have used quite a few different adapters, some of which have worked quite well and others that have just thrown out moments after trying it.
With the Skross World Adapter MUV USB I’m confident that I’ll be bringing it with me on any short trips I make to Europe or the UK and despite its bulky size I find that it’s still a suitable choice to use for traveling with.
Using travel adapters are especially important for people like me that travel with a lot of different electronic gear and they really help me keep my devices charged and ready to go without having to worry about finding a plug that I could use.
With so many devices using USB charging cords it’s also very important for me to have an adapter that has a USB capable design so that’s always something I can keep an eye out for as well.
Well, instead of rambling on let’s take a look at my review of this Skross adapter.
Skross World Adapter MUV USB Review
The Skross MUV USB adapter is pretty nifty and it uses retractable prongs that are able to fit into the plug outlet sockets of most countries.
Without checking the instructions I’m positive that this adapter is going to work in:
- United Kingdom
- Most of Europe
- Asia (Japan, China)
And it’s supposed to work for 220 countries around the world so basically most places are going to visit you should be able to get this guy plugged in and ready to go.
The design of this adapter is actually quite bulky but since it’s designed to be used in quite a few countries it’s not surprising that it’s a little bit bigger than just your standard adapter that can only be used in one or two places.
The way it works is by taking advantage of a slider system that you can used to slide out a retractable prong that fits the country outlets that you’re visiting.
Basically you just slide out the prong that you need, plug it in, and then you’re able to take advantage of the dual USB ports as well as the single plug outlet on the front.
To retract the prong there is a button on the side that you push and then you can slide the prom back into the adapter so that it takes on its standard square shape without anything sticking out.
The one thing I noticed is that the adapter itself is quite big. Despite its size the practicality of this adapter makes it worth traveling with.
It’s made from a hard plastic material and I found that the sliders as well as the button to retract the prongs are quite sturdy and seemingly well suited for long-term use.
After a little bit of struggling trying to get a plug in the front the first time it worked very well every time after that and now I don’t have any issues getting a plug to fit inside.
Keep in mind that this isn’t a voltage converter and you’re going to want to pick up one separately if you think you’re going to need one for traveling with.
Ease of Use
Using the Skross World Adapter MUV USB is fairly straightforward and once you get the hang of how the retractable plugs work there really isn’t anything to it.
Depending on where you are you’re going to want to choose the right plug so that it fits into the outlet and after plugging it in you just attach your devices either through the plug on the front or into either one of the USB ports on the top.
Once you’re done using it you just remove the adapter from the wall, push the button in on the side while you retracted the plug, and then it’s good to go until you need it again.
It’s very convenient having this little device because it means I don’t have to worry about carrying so many different adapters around to use just for one specific place and the dual USB ports are super helpful at keep my smaller tech charged.
There are two main drawbacks that I encountered with the Skross World Adapter MUV USB – its size and the fact that it can only accommodate 2-prong plugs.
For the size, the adapter is quite big and depending on where you’re plugging it in it can even fall out of the wall unless it has a sturdy positioning.
Some of the other adapters that I use are usually much smaller since they’re designed to just be used with a single outlet style and from that I can plug in an extension cord and still use everything that I brought from home.
The benefit of this one, despite its size, is that it works in so many places but then you really only get to use a single plug and 2 USB ports at a time.
For example, I wasn’t actually able to plug the adapter in and use my GoPro battery charger at the same time – it was too big and they couldn’t fit together on the same wall outlet.
The other drawback, and this was a big one for me, was that I couldn’t use my Macbook cord or any other 3-prong cord with the adapter plug.
The plug is only capable of supporting 2-prong plugs, and it’s not able to support 3-prong plugs which are actually one of the most important type of plug that I use.
The problem is that I’m mostly using the 2-prong type for USB adapters and for charging camera batteries but the 3-prong is what I need for plugging in my Macbook and it’s the most important thing I need to plug in.
So despite traveling quite a bit and having to carry around a wide range of different adapters to use depending on where I’m going I’m actually not inclined to bring along of the Skross World Adapter MUV USB because having 2-prong outlets and USB support is actually the least of my worries when it comes to charging my devices.
Final Thoughts and Recommendation
Overall I quite like the Skross World Adapter MUV USB.
It’s a very well designed, practical for many travelers, seemingly durable. With this you don’t need a variety of different adapters so you just have to rely on one or two to keep everything charged when you’re abroad.
Unfortunately, I really wish that it came with a 3 prong outlet so that I could use it for plugging in my MacBook laptop as well as plugging in an extension cord if I wanted to take advantage of more outlets rather than just one.
Having the dual USB ports is a bonus but I’m always able to charge USB devices through my computer so it’s not a big concern of mine having any extra ports.
While I didn’t find the Skross Travel Adapter suitable for my traveling needs (though I would bring it for shorter trips) I would still recommend it to those that aren’t traveling that often but are visiting a variety of different places that use different plugs.
For infrequent travelers, especially those that aren’t traveling with a laptop, the plug and dual USB ports offer plenty of options for keeping your devices charged but if you need something a little bit more heavy duty to charge a laptop or something else then I would recommend looking elsewhere.
